Rainmaking For Lawyers has since 2005 worked with lawyers and law firms to improve their profitability and effectiveness.

Our coaching services provide individual lawyers the tools and strategies they need to grow their book of business and to take more control of their careers.  Our consulting work helps law firm leaders address a range of issues relating to their profitability and growth.

Who We Serve

Rainmaking For Lawyers primarily serves attorneys who have sophisticated clients, primarily in the business world.  Most of our clients work in large metropolitan areas either as transactional attorneys or litigators.  We have experience working with lawyers in a variety of practice areas including real estate, ERISA, soft IP, patents, business immigration, estate planning, tax, and management-side labor and employment law.  We have also advised lawyers in specialty practices such as equine law, cyber law, FINRA arbitrations, and the defense of public entities, including school districts, municipalities, and counties.  Most of our individual clients who seek one-on-one coaching have ten or more years of experience, and are looking to grow their book of business.  This includes starting a new firm, spinning off from an existing firm, increasing fees, and reducing collections problems.  Our coaching clients have ranged from lawyers who are looking to transcend being a solo practitioner to partners at AmLaw 100 firms.

Our consulting work on behalf of law firms also focuses on lawyers serving businesses or other entities.  As described in more detail in the description of our services, much of our work involves some aspect of strategic planning or other business development work, including mergers and acquisitions, facilitating partner retreats, and addressing compensation and human resources issues. Most of our law firm clients have between 10 and 150 clients, but this is not a strict requirement.

About Our Founder

Before embarking on his legal career, Gideon Grunfeld worked as a human resources executive for a Fortune 500 Company, ADP, as well as a teaching hospital with 5,000 employees. He also worked for an economic consulting firm, National Economic Research Associates, then a subsidiary of Marsh & McLellan.

Rainmaking For Lawyers is a direct outgrowth of Gideon’s experience as an attorney, HR executive, consultant and professional speaker. He brings his experiences to bear to provide practical and actionable business coaching and consulting services to lawyers and law firms.

Gideon Grunfeld

Gideon Grunfeld

Gideon Grunfeld was a large law firm litigator for almost ten years. After clerking for a Federal District Court judge in the Central District of California, he worked for the Los Angeles office of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, and then at the Washington D.C. office of Covington & Burling.  At Skadden, Gideon focused on management-side employment law and a variety of business litigation on behalf of clients such as Pepsi, Sunbeam, & Ralph Lauren.  At Covington, Gideon’s practice largely consisted of business litigation, and antitrust regulatory work on behalf of clients such as Exxon, John Deere, and Union Pacific.  He also developed a pro bono practice representing charter schools.  Gideon is an honors graduate of University of California, Hastings College of the Law, as well as the University of Pennsylvania, where he majored in Economics.
